How Much Can I Get for My Old Car?

Professional junk car removal services make it easy to get paid for your old clunker. Fill out a quick form online, get an instant quote and - if you like the price - schedule a pickup. How much can you get for that rusty old car? Well, that depends.

In most cases, you can expect anywhere from $200 to $1,000 for your clunker. Payments cap out at about $5,000, but if your car is worth that much, a junk car removal service is probably not the best option to maximize profits.

Here are some examples of what you can expect to get for various cars:

  • 1992 Audi 100 CS quattro: $250-$275
  • 1998 Dodge Caravan LE: $250-$275
  • 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo: $650-$700
  • 1998 Toyota Camry LE: $525-$550
  • 1985 Mercury Cougar: $250-$275

  • The vehicle’s condition does have some impact on price. If the car is in great shape, you might be able to negotiate more than what was offered in your instant quote. Most junk removal services will ask a few basic questions about your car’s condition, including:

  • What is the mileage?
  • Is the car drivable?
  • Are all the tires inflated with air?
  • Are there any dents baseball-sized or larger?
  • Does the car have fire or flood damage?
  • Are all of the interior components intact?

  • The good news is, almost no condition is too bad for a junk car removal services. They take cars that don’t run, cars that are rusted out - even cars that are missing parts. You just won’t get as much money. Generally, the only restriction is the age of the car. Most services won’t take cars made in the 1970s or earlier. Cars that old are simply not worth enough in many cases to make the free pickup worthwhile.

If the car does run, be prepared to receive slightly less for the car from a removal service than you would with a private sale. Think of it as paying for convenience. You don’t have to post an advertisement, schedule appointments with potential buyers or wait days, weeks or months for the right buyer to come along.
